There's been a large discussion about this at the deadites.net forums. Most feel that it would be a very bad thing. It's almost impossible to include Bruce on the project, and Sam Raimi is not going to direct it. My opinion is rapidly changing from interested, to disgusted.
This shouldn't happen...Bruce Campbell is the only Ash for me.

what im hearing now is that Raimi is producing the big budget remake (rumors have Ashton Kutcher in the lead role!!! good lord!) and at the same time Riami will direct the fourth Evil Dead film which will continue with the further adventures of Ash. I would be fine with this! Of course, there has been so much speculation about this that I don't trust what I hear anymore.

While I am against certain actors taking on the roles in this film and the many rumors as to who the director will be, I honesty dont see a problem with this being remade as many people do. I dont see the problem with any film being remade. It doesnt ruin the original in any way. It's still there. They are not going to re-call all the DVD's or VHS tapes. The original will still be adored by the millions of fans.
There are several old horror films I would love to see remade, this being one of them. My love for the original will still be the same, I am just interested in seeing what can be done with the storyline this day in age and on a higher budget.
Can you guys please give your opinion's why you hate remakes so much?

Randy: .. well, remakes. One thing I abhor is that Hollywood remakes foreign films all the frickin' time. It seems very ethnocentric. I read where the share of markets of Euro films in the states are less than 3 percent, whereas America in Euro is well over 50 percent. I don't know the exact figures but it seems unfair and almost as though we as Americans are not open minded to other cultures. As with Asian horror, everything is being remade. I think the remake fad is an attempt to push the sells of older films and seems pretty disgenerous to me. There is also talk of doing yet another remake of Psycho since the last one did poorly. How often are they going to do this? It's like what David Lynch said when someone asked him about rumors to do a big budget remake of Twin Peaks: "that would be like reheating vomit'.

I agree with what Bare Nerve said. It doesn't take anything away from the orig. It probably helps the younger generation go see the old flick (at least some of the younger kids). If you don't want to see a remake, dont go see it.
