i use gel fx. what do you use underneath for a long throbbing tube like look. a vein per say. i'm stuck for household items. can' t i use something like saran wrap. tie it thin and long like a small deflated one. as long as it's not to ridiculously huge. any other suggestions?

This is a long shot and i've never tired this but try using a balloon. it inflates just make it look like skin. just a suggestion

yeah the balloon thing is a good idea, just make sure you get those long ones. Appky it underneath some fake skin and attach a tube to it which is in turn attached to a syringe. Pump the syringe back and forth slightly and voila a throbbing vein

though Little Monster probably has the best suggestion for household items. There are certainly others that will cost a bit more.
The only thing I would add is using a red ballon with a blue or purple liquid that is pumped in and out will help wit the colorization. Straight liquid latex and add hair depending.
if you want it on your actors head you could always get them to hold their breath and then film and playing it forwards and backwards a few times. if you want this on their arm you could do the same trick by cutting off the circulation and film it the same way.
