I've tried the Eejit ( www.exposure.co.uk/eejit/blood/) blood spurting technique, but it always comes out in a calm little spray, with minimal amounts of actual blood. Does anyone know a way to get a good gushing blood effect? It doesn't have to last long, it just has to look good.

ive been using this effect on student movies i dont know what blood formula youve been using . but ive been diluting th karo syrup formula with water. also ive been hooking up my tube to a compresser i have a 1hp compresser with tank . so depending on the shop i can turn the psi up or down also if you want it to keep bleeding after you can conect a hudson sprayer to your larger hose so after it blows you just have someone pump blood....and drip drip drip

Here's another poor advicec from me... I don't know about being shot or whatsoever, because I too, uses the same way as everyone does, but I could give some tips for gushing blood from stabs. When the knife goes in, place a small polysterine soup bowl, with sponge and fake blood in it, and then wrap it with thin plastic. It should look good as blood would gush out, and looks 85% reallistic. After the knife/sword is pulled out, cut the camera, and replace the first stuffs with a bloon filled with fake blood. When the camera is on again, the actor would have to squeeze the balloon, and presto! Blood would be gushing real good.

I get crap most of the time when I mention this, but liquid fire extinguishers are wonderfull for blood gushing (its also pretty much the same principle as psychoanimism's idea). They can be a little over dramatic if you arent careful though. I also make all sorts of different shaped sprays to with tubing and connectors from home improvement stores. I usually just mix water with a few different flavors of kool-aid for blood since it is unbelievably cheap. I have also perfected methods for making huge syringes out of lengths of pvc pipe for certain effects. I recently had to make a ten foot long syringe (definitely a little unwieldly) that Im guessing sprays about 10 gallons. the blood stream is about 2 inches in diameter and sprays about 15 feet into the air

If you follow the Eejit guide to a T you will not get a proper effect, omit the hose and just use the hose that come with a the bug sprayer, it should work. After all a bug sprayer is nothing but a supersoaker, it's all about how much pressure you use. The fire extinguisher is a good idea too, i guess it all just comes down to what you have readily available. Either way Goriddle it right, make up a few different nozzles to get different effects.
A 10 foot syringe eh? Impressive. How were you even able to handle that thing?

The 10 foot syringe was made with a very particular effect in mind. It basically just sits on the gound and someone (a very strong someone) pushes the plunger in. It does take quite a bit of elbow grease and it is not the most convenient effect in the world, but it was INCREDIBLY cheap and performs extremely well. They are really easy to make.
