I've scoured about but saw nothing in relation, so here I am askin'...
Impalement. How?
I'm not shooting anything yet, but a pivotal death scene calls for one of my nubile young men (the women die much more respectively - heh) to be impaled to a wall with his feet a good foot or so off of the ground and I am quite curious to know the best way to do this.
Would some sort of jerry-rigged harness factor in? The rusted pole is shoved through his abdomen and the character is only in jeans and a tank when it happens. Of course the shirt can be negotiated, but having him bundled up to cover a harness would be ridiculous in the scene.
I'd GREATLY appreciate any tips on making this tricky death happen on screen. Thanx!

I'm no expert, but I'd say try rigging up something similar to a bicycle seat to the wall. Your actor can hide the seat in his/her crotch and sell the scene as if they were impaled on the wall. Feet can even dangle above the ground.
Just a thought.

Not a minute after posting I suggested to a friend about rigging some sort of seat, but seeing your suggestion of a bicycle seat was sort of a big "DUH!". heh. Thanx for the great (and what should've been obvious) suggestion. I think that, coupled with a strap of some sort under his shirt to hold him to the wall would work well.
BTW, I look forward to Death4Told and was quite excited to just recently find the site which led me to fearmakers.com. I'd seen the Fearmaker site last year and loved the look, but lost the site and completely forgot the name (i tried fearfilm(s), horrormakers, etc.). If the site is any indication of the product, things look great!

I did go to school for special fx, but I'm no expert. However, a few of my friends are. Thanks for checking out the site. Have you been to the new Death4Told site? www.death4told.com
