Story - In this modern retelling of H.G. Wells' classic sci fi horror, civilazation is laid to ruin when a super-race of aliens invades Earth. In a blink of an eye massive "walkers" cover the planet, annihilating all in their path. As cities crumble and human flesh is ripped from the bone, one man(C. Thomas Howell) struggles to find the weapon that will turn the tide for mankind.
Thoughts - When i went to open the package I recieved from Asylum Home Entertainment and found War of the Worlds dvd i was a bit confused. This was not the Cruise/Spielberg film everyone was talking about rather the Howell/Latt straight to video adaptation that i never heard of. Apprehensive i pop in the dvd and was pleasently surprised with the film. Everything about this film is pure b-movie style from the veteran b-actors C. Thomas Howell and Jake Busey to the special effects. While the film stays true to Wells vision there are some difference such as the Six legged Machines called Walkers rather than the Tripods. The acting, story, and special effects were all above average. And i thoroughly believe that all involved in the film set out to make a quality film and not cash in on Big Budget counterpart. For the most part they succeeded.
