Personally, i like the idea of a Horror Western. I was watching open Range last night (it sucked) but it really made me think about using that Italian talent for horror and that italian talent for westerns....and mixing them Silent Killers, Drak Landscapes...There doesn't even have to be anything supernatural about it. Psychological horror....
i don't know. i think it;'s hard to do that with a low budget, however. To me , the easiest, most successful, and most fun type of low budget horror is and always will be zombies or slashers.
You won't be breaking any barriers, but You'll make a good film that will be well-received....
Only My Opinion...

Superheidi, You'd probably like my adaptation of Ed Wood's The Ghoul Goes West. LOL I wrote a script based on this called The Phantom Ghoul that is a modern day western where the cowboys ride Indians (motorcycles of course). And the ghouls ride around vintage 1945 Nazi flying saucers. LOL It's fun and someday I'd like to make it and it could be done low budget. Would it stop any hearts from the horor scenes? Probably not unless it counts to die laughing.
