Google will soon be releasing a free web based email service offering 1GB of email space. Compare that to hotmails 2mb and yahoo 4mb.
It will open up to the general public within the next three months.

It appears that this might be elaborate Aprils Fool Joke. Pretty good if it is considering sites like cnn put articles about it on their frontpage. No comment from google yet so we'll see.
