I'm not the most impartial person to be talking this up. Ive been reading Mignola's books for a few years now and really like Del Toro's films. I think some of the main characters are underdeveloped and I think some of the cgi effects aren't really anything special but I really enjoyed this film alot. I think Pearlman is really great in this, makes Hellboy an everyman kind of character with alot of interesting personality quirks. He even seems to make the stupid one-liners work ... kind of. Also features one of the coolest Lovecraftian creatures I've seen in a film ever. And Kronenen is a great character ... some kind of clockwork living dead nazi ninja. Reminds me of Snake Eyes from the old GI Joe toon. anyone else catch this film?

Ive never heard of Hellboy until the movie was coming out. I went to the theatre with low expectations but i was pleasently surprised. From beginning to end the movie kept my attention which rare for me. This is one movie i wouldnt mind seeing a sequel to.
The "clockwork living dead nazi ninja" guy's outfit for some reason reminded me of a lost power ranger ;D

Just speaking as a comic geek, I think Dark Horse has consistently put out the coolest comics in the last decade (Hellboy being my fave) but when it came to making movies, they put out stuff like Barb Wire and The Mask. I do think it suffers the same thing as most comic movies do, has kind of a patchwork quality to it where they've taken different elements from the comic and put them together in one book. Power ranger!! Ugh ... no ....
