I recently saw this early (?) Wes Craven film. Okay, so it has no structure and a lot of the plot is not explained well enough, but it's a bit of fun. The story is like something a kid wrote when bored in class - but none the worse for that. It's about a facist couple who live in a large house alone, and take care to kill anyone who even thinks about trespassing. When a young boy and his friend (ever-cool Ving Rhames) break in to try and steal money from the unjust couple, they get trapped and discover very disturbing secrets about the house and it's owners... There are some great performances in this film, particularly from the two main children playing Fool and the girl. Everett McGill is on great loony-as-a-toon as the bondage wearing maniac. It doen't make one blind bit of sense, and many of characters remain underused and underdeveloped. That said, it's worth checking out just to see that people do sometimes choose to just do whatever the hell they want with a film.

I enjoyed People under the stairs, it was quite different from other films u see now. I like the idea how all the people under the stairs have got their tongues chopped off.

I was in love with this movie as a child. When I show it to my friends now though (at age 16-17) they find it dull and boring.
To me, it's disturbing as f**k. The killer is no zombie or alien, just two people... of course it would never happen, but it gives an erie realistic approach.

I really liked this movie when I was a kid. I watched it all the time. I havent seen it in years, so I cant really give a more detailed opinion. The story line and some of the scenes that stick in my head are still very disturbing.
I may end up making a trip to Blockbuster for this.
