This film is great. I don't have the energy to write a full review, but let me just say that everyone should watch it. It's original and impressive both in creative and technical terms. It's violent, interesting and very, very disturbing. It also has possibly the best plot twist I've ever seen at the end. That's all.

It's on my list of films to check out:) I've only seen one film by this director and it was actually a short called "Cut", which is part of an Asian Horror Anthology called "The Three Extremes". Personally, I thought cut was the weakest of the three films in this anthology, but I'm still interested to see Old Boy and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance just the same. Glad to hear you dug the film:)

I just received the OldBoy DVD and I can’t wait to see it. I’ve heard so many positive things about the movie. I love Asian movies. Last movie I saw was Kung Fu Hustle, which I loved. The dark humor surprised me, but I laughed my @$$ off anyway.
This weekend I plan to see OldBoy, plus a few other Asian for horror flicks I bought but haven’t seen yet (Three Extremes being one of them).
When I do watch the movie, I’ll post my thoughts on it too. ;D

Oldboy didn't live up to the hype for me unfortunately and it seemed a bit convoluted and self conscious, though I seem to be in the minority view on that;) The Three Extremes was quite good, though, Park Chan Wook's contribution - the 3rd and last in the anthology - felt like the weakest to me. Miike, and Fruit Chan's shorts were top notch, though:) On a side note, I also recenty checked out Park Chan-Wook's Joint Security Area and, though it wasn't without its flaws, I have to say that the majority and core of the flick was riveting and very well done.

You are right. Joint Security Area was a great film. Good acting / directing. Engaging plot. But there was something missing. Maybe the pacing. I hope OldBoy is better. The reviews are fantastic, but there is that hype factor you mentioned. This weekend I will take a look and see if it does live up to that hype. I hope it does.
Kung Fu Hustle, on the other hand, went well over my expectations. Even thought I own one of the uncut DVD versions of the movie, I would gladly go watch this movie on the big screen. I did the same for Iron Monkey and Legend of Drunken Master.
I didn't do the same for Hero and House of Flying Daggers, but it was because of personal and professional issues. Regardless, I love both movies and would have loved to seen Hero on the big screen cause the movie just blew me away! It's definitely one of my favorite movies of all time.
I know Kung Fu Hustle will be coming to my local movieplex cause I have already seen the promotion at the theater, but OldBoy will not.
