This installment of Mick Garris' Masters of Horror series, is by far the most disturbing, and damaging film in the histoy of the show. Who else could compile a blend of humor, violence, torture, psychological terror, and sheer horror than Takashi Miike?
Set in 18th century Japan, an American travels to a Japanese island in search of a prostitute, Komomo, whom he had an encounter with and wishes to bring her back to the states with him. Unbeknownst to him, he discovers that something horrible happened to his hooker lover. A disfigured prostitute informs him of the news, and then tells him the tale of how her life began and the reasoning behind Komomo's untimely disapperance.
Brothels, unusual pimps, siamese twins, torture have never appeared so terrifying. And whatever you do, DONT drink water out of a bucket...
Imprint is one of if not Miike's best films and his genius does not go unnoticed. If you do not hide your eyes, feel nauseated, feel disturbed, or keep your jaw from closing, then your stomach must be made of iron.
THIS IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. This film is an incredible work of sickening art and genius and it will forever be "imprinted" into my mind and the minds of all those who encounter it.

Do you think 'Imprint' would have recieved so much attention if it had not been dropped from the show? Or do you think it still would have recieved the praise it's getting on its own merits? I haven't seen this particular episode, I have seen a few episodes and for the most part I'm disappointed with what I've seen. I think some of it has to do with my excpectations of the show. But it seems the directors for the most part are phoning their episodes in. WHen I heard Miike was going to do an episode, i thought 'great'! WHen I heard it was more or less banned from cable I thought 'even better- he's really living up to his rep and delivering the goods'! It seems he met the criteria for Garris' show and got punished because of this.

i agree with this somewhat. i thought the films was amazing because i looked past the controversy and the hype. i dont know that people wouldnt have liked as much if it hadnt been banned from broadcast. i say this because right underneath Imprint is a previous favorite of mine which is Cigarette Burns. I believe Cigarette Burns disproved that theory
