I can't believe no one posted a review of this yet. In spite of the fact that I wasn't looking forward to this remake, I did like Zombie's previous films (that's right, I actually enjoyed House of 1000 Corpses!). So I figured it couldn't be as bad as the last four or so films. And Busta Rhymes isn't in it at all!
I thought it was a real mess of a movie. For starters, I don't have any idea why they removed Michael from his surburban setting. Is it really that hard to believe that a psycho couldn't go astray in that type of environment? Always puttin' the poor white trash down! I'm guess Zombie wanted to emphasize on Michael's human side but it eventually clashes with the image he presents of Myers later on. Sheri Moon is terrific as Michael's mother, and the kid playing Michael is a pretty good actor as well. It's disturbing to watch a kid go on a killing spree but the movie doesn't shed any real insight into his motivations and neither does Dr. Loomis' sessions.
The first part of the film really gets in the way of the second half. Unbelievably Zombie brings back the plotline that Laurie and Michael are related! I always thought that was the single biggest mistake of the film series and made absolutely no sense.
Even Carpenter thought it was a stupid idea.
There's a ton of cameos by familiar actors and there's not much reason for many of them. But hey, who doesn't want to see Ken Foree as a trucker? That guy is a great actor and I can't believe he hasn't been in more movies!
So all in all, it's not a good film but in no way was it a complete waste of time. There's some good brutal scenes and good performances, good visuals. I found something to enjoy in it.
