Heidi,
It wasn't me that you met. Unfortunately I wasn't at the Fango show. (heard it was a good time) It was probably Michael Hein, Anthony Pepe or Will Spodnik. Email any of them at Moodudefilms@aol.com I'll also let them know about this post.
Thanks, Jen

This depends on the festival and usually depends most on the size of the festival and number of entries. Usually the answer is a resounding NO. Your enty fee gets your film/video view by a selection panel that narrows the number of entries down for the final panel review and showing of the winning entries at the festival presentation. Normally you will get feedback in the form of a score card that shows how your film was rated. These can be brutal and very cold since these people are sometimes watching dozens of films one right after another and as a general rule most of what they watch is cr&p. Sad to say, sometimes pretty good films can get panned just because of where they fall in the schedule of showing to the selection panel. Also, some less than best films can score higher than they should if shown right after a super stinker that makes it 'look' good. The important thing is be original. If the judges have just sat through twenty Jason or Freddy ripoffs I can guarantee they'll fast forward though anything that even looks like another one ... and it could have been the best film at the fest.

My film is COMPLETELY ORIGINAL, but since it is what you would call a NO BUDGET film with a few of my good friends they might not like it. THE FILM COMBINATION EX is turning out quite well and I think that there is a good chance that they will display it, and if not I can atleast say that I got some exp. out of the deal.

Ragcranker:
Dad is a wise man. His advice is solid and sage-like.
The NYCHFF is a competitive festival and not all films submitted will be chosen to screen. Each film (feature or short) will go through at least three screenings by a group of industry professionals. One thing that our festival that most don't is we watch every film from beginning to end, no exceptions!
Check out the website for all the details for the upcoming year and check out the wrap-up's of 2002 and 2003. Good luck!

Thanks Moodude ... you just made me feel ...OLD! LOL
I may be 44 and have been doing this for close to 30 years but I don't have a long white beard or walking staff with a big crystal on it ... OK, OK, I have the staff with crystal and I'm working on the beard but I have a few good years of learning left in me too.
Sage-like ... bah! :-)

YOU CAN BET YOUR ASS THAT COMBINATION EX IS GOING TO WIN BEST SHORT!!! Although that's a great attitude to have, it's not really about winning. It's about horror films, filmmakers and community. Just concentrate on making the best film you can so you can get a screening. Best of luck!
