I was wondering if anyone out there could answer a couple of questions for me. I plan on filming a movie in beta (like t.v. shows). Does anyone know if it could be easily transfered to digital (for editing and possibly distribution on DVD) without losing quality? Is this something i could do myself or would i have to take it to a lab? Thanks.

I've never used beta, but a Canopus Digital Converter ( ADVC-100) is supposed to be the cat's meow for transferring analog material into a digital signal to upload to a computer. About $250, brand new plus another $15 for shipping. These are also reverse directional, so editing you did on the computer can be sent back through the Canopus and taped on your machine...at least I'm told it'll do that with a Sony 8mm- Hi8 tape. They work with standard audio and video cables, an S Video cable, or REAL well with firewire. They drop virtually no frame rate at all and leave audio as good as on the original source media. They have a more expensive version (about $500) that even cleans up the original audio and video for a better picture. Supposed to really be something! www.newegg.com has them and they ship FedEx 2-day delivery as their standard. Type in Canopus as your search phrase. Much more info on their home site: www.canopus.com Todd
