The idea has been shuffling around my head for a while. A woman is being haunted by strange dreams of a woman dressed in a long white night robe throwing herself off a cliff into the ocean below. Then as the dreams start to take over her nights, they begin to take over her days as she begins to see the woman. As she learns the history of the woman, she learns that she was a rape victim who threw her life away. What is the tie that binds these two woman? And what does the ghostly woman want?
What do you think?

Very cool idea! Are u trying 2 get at that the woman in white is the future of the woman who has the dreams? Whatever it is, it's a great story and stick with it.

I think there are two types of things the ghostly woman could want; to seek help from the young woman, or to warn her of impending harm. The ghostly woman might suffer from the effects of her act of self-destruction and be held in a limbo, a supernatural area of twilight, neither heaven nor hell. She needs someone on earth to perform some act of penance or atonement, i.e., to do some kind of act that will free her from her bonds and allow her to go to heaven/ rest in peace. Perhaps her grave needs to be moved to consecrated ground and a priest needs to perform some kind of penance ritual, or maybe she wants the living woman to help some other young woman or child who is in great danger.
The ghostly woman might also want to warn the living woman of some danger that is close to her. If the ghostly woman has recently died, maybe she wants to warn her that maybe she has unknowingly met and aroused the sexual interest of the rapist, or maybe the alluring, mysterious man she’s started dating is the rapist.
The tie that binds these two women could be; she’s living in the house that the ghostly woman formerly lived in. This might be a good connection if the ghostly woman is to be the ghost of a woman who died long ago, and that the house is a dramatic old house, maybe on the seaside. A windswept sea under cloudy skies provides a haunting, romantic backdrop.
Maybe the young woman is a descendant of the ghostly woman. Maybe the young woman has lost a child, or mourns the child she gave up years ago, and the ghostly woman is trying to help her find that child, or find new love. This might work well as a classical gothic romance with a spooky supernatural backdrop.
I’ll try to thing of some other things.

This idea has changed in my mind over and over. The first idea was a simple ghost story about revenge. The second idea was having the ghost story wrap around that of a murder mystery, like that of a giallo.
The idea that I cam up with is: the woman who is being haunted by the dreams, also has people from her past dying by some one's hands. Her husband tries to convince her that the two are in her head, but as the bodies pile up and the dream get worse, he and her husband take off to let things cool off so to speak. They go to seaside resort, or to find out that the place is the same in her dreams. And now that she is there, the dreams spill into her world. And the killer follows them, hiding something he/she did in the past. This place is the key to both the killer and the ghost, and it all ties in with this woman and the world around her.
