Me and my somewhat of a studio have an idea for a horror movie:
Plot: Paul (or whatever his name will be) is returning to his hometown to visit his sick mother who still lives at home, but also to visit the insane asylum he once stayed at. But when he arrives at the assylum, he finds that it is not running anymore and is in the worst condition imaginable. In fact, it doesnt seem like anything is running anymore in the town. When he goes to visit his mother, he finds something horrible. She attempts to kill him but he is forced to kill her. It was as if she had gone...insane. His wheels have been trashed so he hides out in the house and finds three other "normal"people hiding in the attic. He learns that the insane broke out of the assylum and overun the city. Anyone who who becomes too close to them slowly drifts away into a state of panic and brutal insanity.
I'll have to fix the plot up a little bit but that's kinda the idea. Tell me what u think and i wont care if u trash it completely, it's just an idea.
PS: anyone who's got connections with producers or anyone like that let me know on this message board.

I have to say, I like the idea. I alway had a thing for towns which loose control. Since this is just the idea stage you have some good ground to stand, there seem to be a lot of chances for a nice scary flick. One thing though, I would't have him go and visit the hospital, no one would do that trust me.
I will love to hear more and see what you come up with.
cheers

You're right, no 1 would visit the insane assylum where they were once kept. Perhaps he's still haunted by horrifying memories of the assylum. If more people like the idea i'll probably start the script.
Thanks for the reply,

Maybe have it, that the hospital sits up upona hill, so it's presence is always there. It can be seen from parks where children play, from out windows from the town's homes. Every where you go it's there, watching.
could work

I like it! It's just always sitting there watching your every move! Another idea I had was that since Paul was once kept at the assylum he doesn't even have to get near 1 of the maniacs, he has to fight himself from going crazy. And will have 2 say that the patients at the assylum were beaten and treated like crap.

How would people catch what the maniacs have? Since it really isn't a virus that can be caught. You could, have the maniacs escape from the hospital, those who are capable attack the police station, power station, places like that, so to cut the twon off from the rest of the country. Other patients, those who have dementia and things like that could just walk around outside, rambling like they do. The town takes shelter in there homes, the few that do try to escape are killed, the rest being trpped for so long begin to loose touch with reality and then the madness sets in.
Most of this you wouldn't have to show, it could work with a monologe like the one in Jaws or Night of the Living Dead.
These are just some ideas for you.
cheers

I see ur point and i guessed i should've explained it more. Ur right, it's not a virus. But there's something about the maniacs that is almost hypnotizing. I dont' want 2 say cast a spell on u, but if u were to watch one of the maniacs going about the streets going crazy, u have flashbacks from horrifying things that happened in ur life.
Originally I was going to start the movie off by showing horrifying scenes of patient abuse and torture, and then move on to showing security camera like visuals of the patients escaping, then go to Paul arriving at the city.

Here's a couple of thoughts. have the main character a former employee of the sanitarium ... he could then have reason to go to the place to first encounter what is going on first hand.
Also you could ahve it that the doctors at the sanitarium were working on a special treatment for the more violent inmates and it is this 'treatment' that started the cascade effect in the town when the inmates excaped.

I like the idea . I'm currently putting this project aside since we dont have the money this film would need. I'm trying to think of a good original horror movie with the effect that Evil Dead, The Exorcist, and hopefully Cabin Fever had. If anyone has any ideas let me know. Ok...let's try something that pulls this story a little further away from "the Crazies".
How about the main character doens't even remember being in the asylum until he checks it out... later in the story, when they go to investigate, possibly seeking an authority figure to help them due to the lights being on or something.
Flashbacks of his previous residence haunt him... or do they? Perhaps he is already being afflicted with what everyone else has apparently come down with... perhaps not... perhaps he's really having flashbacks.
But as he and his group get further entangled in the story it becomes more and more obvious to his mates that he's holding something back.

Instead have him drive by the asylum, and show a close-up on a chain wrapped aroundthe front gate (I think people would understand it is closed)

Just throwing in my two cents here...
Anybody read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance? Aside from being a fantastic book, it's a true story about a guy who was considered crazy and subjected to electro-shock therapy, waking up with a whole new identity and personality, and his struggle to regain his lost self.
Anywho...
How about a whole town of people who have "new" identities and don't know it? The town is an experiment of the doctors, to see if they can create a social structure of some kind with "rehabbed" psyches. Then something happens in the asylum thatbegins to break down the treatments. Maybe that is why our hero comes back, he feels called....
This is getting good.

I like the way you're taking the idea, especially the whole conspiracy angle. Got the makings of a great story here now, could hark back to some of the old classics as well, keep the audience guessing as to what is actualy going on in the town. Kind of like 'Bodysnatchers' and 'Dammed'. I like it, lots of possibilities...

holy Crap!!!!!!!!! It's like the attack of the playstation horror game genre, I mean come on people Resident Evil, Silent Hill, get a grip. Dude the idea is good but it's not the idea you should be thinking about right now (im being an arse sorry) Ok, this is how i tend to work so u might not like it but it's a good method. No1) THIS IS A HORROR FILM, SO WHAT SHOULD ALWAYS BE IN A HORROR FILM/ FRIGHTS/SCARES/SPOOKY sh*t. No2) SO THE MAIN THING TO THINK ABOUT IS THE SCARY BITS, THINK UP AT LEAST 5 DEATHS AND MAKE THEM SCARY AS HELL, NOW YOU HAVE GREAT DEATH SCENES,AND NOW BUILD YOUR STORY AROUND IT. HERE'S A LITTLE SECRET IM GOING TO PUT IN MY GREAT HORROR FILM/BUT IM NOT SAYING ANYTHING ABOUT THE PLOT AS OF YET. OK IN THE FILM HAVE SLOW FADE OUTS FOR THE EDIT AND IN THIS SLOW FADE OUT (WHEN IT'S MAINLY BLACK ) HAVE THE OUTLINE OF ONE OF THE MENTAL PATENTS A SCARY ONE, I DONT KNOW IF ANY OF U HAVE SEEN A CERTAIN PAINTING IT'S AN ILLUSION WHEN YOU HAVE TO STARE AT THIS ODD LOOKING WHITE OUTLINE OF A FACE FOR ABOUT 10 SEC THEN WHEN YOU BLINK THE OUTLINE BECOMES THE FACE OF JESUS CHRIST IN FULL DETAIL AND NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES U BLINK ITS JUST STARING AT YOU RIGHT BEFORE YOUR EYES, IT EVENTUALLY GOES AFTER A MINUTE BUT IT'S A GREAT EFFECT. ANY WHO GOOD LUCK, AND IF YOU NEED ANY HELP IM ALWAYS HERE. DIL JOHAL/HORROR DUDE.
