How much do scripts written by unknown writers usually sell for? I know that it mainly depends on the company but can anyone can tell me? Just wondering.... Randy Robinson

I know that this should have been posted in the writing section but before I realized it was too late... sorry.

usually a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. Depends on the company. First sales are usually options and there is no guarentee that the script will even be made at that point. A script option can last from 1 to 2 years but usually not longer than that. My first two sales were to an indie producer that was looking for scripts to be written from ideas he had, script-for-hire work. Very little money here but it sometimes helps pay the bills. Luckily when doing script for hire work, you are pretty much guaranteed that your script will be made. Both of the scripts I wrote this way have been produced.

More excellent advice on this topic can be found in the thread, "Where can I send my script?" in the WRITING category on this board.

Hey David,
How did you connect with the indie producer to do the script for hire work, in the first place? I was curious.

I bumped into the guy here, as strange as it may seem, and we've been working together ever since.
