My friends and I last night attempted to film a short. We ran into trouble with our camera which has a hard time focusing in the dark. It cost only 100 dollars and is B&W when your filming, it also doesn't have a viewer. We are just starting out and are making a Blair Witch Project (we know it's cliche but its fun and easy) style film. We don't want to use big harsh lights just really low key lighting. We were using simple halogen tube emergency flash lights. Does anyone have any advice for us. We need to know how to make a semi believable lighting scheme that will show a dark shaped figure hiding against a dark background.

i had the same problem with my old b&w JVC camcorder. One thing I've done is shoot in early evening and try to make it look darker than it really is. And I'm sure there's alot you can do in post production if you do day-for-night shooting.
hmm . I wonder .. I wonder who you are planning to vote for this November ...

The problem is that we don't have any editing equipment at the moment. We just barely bought the camera and have been playing around. We are just figuring things out as we go. Also we want really deep shadows, so the late night works out well for us, really we only want something that shows light realitively close to us. Thanks for the suggestions I'll take them under advisement and that gives us an extra option we didn't have before. Hey I'm shameless, what can I say.
