I'm shooting my first feature film early next year. I have $25,000, me and my DP cannot decide on whether or not to shoot using 16mm (I think 16mm is the way to go) or using Hi-Def (my DP's choice). Our shoot requires basically only one location, however we will need in the neighborhood of about 25 extras (zombies), makeup, fake blood, etc....Any suggestions will be appreciated. cougar814

I say go for 16mm film. I don't think you can afford HD. HD camera packages are very expensive where 16mm cameras cn be had cheap. $25,000 is fairly tight for film. I've shot a feature for around $28,000 which wsa the lowest that go done. (I did shoot a B&W feature and got it in the can for around $14,000, but it never got done because the director flaked out.) It will take careful planning. If you get a lot of free stuff, i.e. locations, crew and talent, then it's possible. Some basic costs: Film Stock: $4500 Processing: $2400 Film to Video transfer: $5000 Go with Fuji film, it's good and 20% cheaper than Kodak Fotokem is a good lab in LA. I have a place in Cincinnati that does package deals on transfers. www.indie-post.comIf you've never made a film before, then I recommend you shoot a short or even a scene from you movie on DV. Borrow a camera, whatever you can get your hands on, and shoot something so you can work the bugs out of your system. Don't pick something complicated or too easy either, but it should involved a 3-4 characters and some action. Scott
