I like the raffel idea, as a grand prize i would suggest something like a old film projector (or even a 16mm or soomething camera) that dont really cost much but can be quite hard to find, include in the prize some old classic horror film reals to watch on your new projector. Have some smaller prizepacks of members movies or whatever else people donate. we could even open it to non members which would mean we could potentially sell alot more tikets, and with the added bonus of getting members movies showen to a greater audience all over the world.

I KNOW I'M A LITTLE LATE FOR THIS DISCUSSION, BUT I SAY GO ALL OUT, PUT TOGETHER A PROPOSAL/ BUSINESS PLAN, HAVE A SOLID SYNOPSIS AND TREATMENT, HAVE A COUPLE OF FILMS ALREADY MADE WITH PUBLICITY, COLD CALL, AND ATTEMPT TO SECURE A REAL BUDGET-- $20,000 TO $100'000 GRAND OR SO, WHATEVER YOU NEED FOR YOUR PRODUCTION TO RUN SMOOTHLY. IT'S ALL BOILS DOWN TO THE CONCEPT, AND A SMART BUSINESS PLAN. THAT'S WHAT GETS INVESTORS. YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED AT THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE OUT THERE WITH MONEY WHO MIGHT BE WILLING TO GIVE YOUR IDEA A CHANCE. REMEMBER, BUSINESS PEOPLE ARE RISK TAKERS, SO ARE FILMMAKERS. THAT'S WHAT LARRY FESSEDEN AND DANTE TOMASSILI DID FOR THEIR BUDGETS. YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE, RIGHT. JUST A THOUGHT GUYS, LOOK BEYOND THE BOX...

THEN KEEP LOOKING MIKE... THEY'RE OUT THERE. CASE IN POINT: I JUST FINISHED A SCREENPLAY/TREATMENT FOR A FEATURE FILM ABOUT BIG FOOT. I TOOK AN ORIGNAL APPROACH AFTER RESEARCHING BIG FOOT IN REGARDS NATIVE AMERICAN MYTHOLOGY. SO IT HAS THAT THEME RUNNING THROUGH IT. WE HAVE MANY TRIBAL CASINOS IN THE INLAND NORTHWEST, THEY MAKE MILLIONS A MONTH, SO I APPROACHED THEM ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF FUNDING A FILM... A WRITE-OFF FOR THEM. AND I'M BUILDING SOME GREAT RAPPORT. I FEEL STRONGLY ENOUGH ABOUT THE POTENTIAL FOR PROFIT... WORD IS OUT ROB ZOMBIE IS GOING TO DO A BIG FOOT THEMED MOVIE AS WELL. TIMING IS EVERYTHING. I FEEL CONFIDENT THAT THIS FILM WILL BE MADE WITH A RESPECTABLE BUDGET. I PUT A HOLD ON IT MORE OR LESS TO MAKE THE SCRIPT MORE POLISHED. IT DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK OUT THIS WELL OR THIS QUICKLY. BUT YOU MUST NEVER SAY NEVER. THE BOTTOM LINE IS; DO WHAT YOU MUST. BEST ANDY K andyandwayne.com

A good way to connect with potential investors is to seek out some local business networking groups, and either joining them or at least attending one or two meetings. Be prepared to look professional-- at least have a business card that looks good. When you have the chance to tell people what you do, say something like, "I'm selling investment opportunities in our latest project." People don't like to give money, but they do appreciate the chance at an investment opportunity.
You could also check with your local chamber of commerce, to see if they allow non-members to attend chamber networking events.
The ideal person you would want to get close to would be a financial planner/investment advisor, who works with high net-worth people. You'll have to work at helping that person get to know you, until he/she''s comfortable suggesting to his/her more adventurous clients that they invest in you.
A great book on the subject of networking is Ivan Misner's "The World's Best-Known Marketing Secret." Good luck!

Here's a off their idea! How bout creating a filmmaking 101 instructional video. We could have members submit videos of their tips and do's and don't and maybe use their films as examples. One person could cover a clip on writing, basic fx, another on storyboard ,someone else on lighting and photography etc etc. We could get all the vids together and edit it and distribute it. And money would go back to the members who gave their tricks of the trade. You would think that instructional dont sell well but just look at the line of ____For Dummies books are doing. The guy who started those books must be making millions.

Here is an idea, but it is a long shot because it would have to be a collective group effort. We have over one hundred members here. Certain members need $$ right? So... If we dig into our pockets and whip out $10, we can send it to that needy filmmaker. If EVERYBODY here did that the filmmaker could get $1000 to put towards their movie. I know it sounds silly, just an idea ;D tried that...didnt work........only raised $50

Yes the carwash worked for us! Planning on having another one when the weather warms up. We raised about 250-300 dollars. Had to take out some for cost of getting the supplies, but a good profit. It's WORK though. But nothing wrong with alittle "elbow grease."

Excellent ideas slay! Maybe if we can gage the interest we can setup something on board for the idea. Now heres an idea that i got off another board(non filmmaking related forum). Now the webmaster of this other board was paying a certain amount of money for the server his forum was running on. The members decided to help keep the site running. So they held an raffle. Now they had a grand prize usually of something of $200 value(ps2, xbox, dvd burner) which was either donated by a member or the initial money from the raffle was used to pay for the grand prize and the profits after that were given to the webmaster to keep the site running. And members donated their own prizes like dvds etc. This way their was one big winner and a couple of small winners who won something. They setup a paypal account where people would buy tickets for $2 each and if you bought more like 10 tickets for $2 each you would get 2 tickets for free. Lots of people bought tickets as who can pass up spend $2, $10, $30 for a chance to win a ps2 or xbox. Now why not do the same here. Have a grand prize that people would pay tickets to win. Have smaller prizes where members donate their movies and other things. And all the profits would go to filmakkers who need money for their films. Just another fund raising idea The prize could be a part in the film, or if the storyboard artist is game a portrait/characature.
