get a gun, buy bullets. aim carefully.
actually, I think there are some suggestions you can use below. I think the subject of one post says something about 'pumping blood'. Might be helpful.

Can you be more specific? What kind of gun? Shooting a person or object? There are a number of ways to do it but the morespecific the request the better the suggestion can be

You could buy some latex appliances or you could get wax and mold it into a bullet hole shape and apply makeup over that. To show them get shot do it from the side. Go to www.expose.co.uk and check out the guide to filmmaking and there you will find a thing on squibs, gunshot effect, etc.

if you want a person to get shot you could strap a bottle or something holding the blood in and when they get shot get them to grab their stomach and push the bottle so the blood comes out onto the shirt and it will look sort of like someone being shot. ;D

There are endless ways to do effects like this, from the simple 'blood bag in hand' methods, to the full-blown 'prosthetic head & explosives' route.
As Lastresort says, you need to be more specific. What are you looking to achieve exactly, and what sort of money and time do you have available? These factors will greatly influence the way you achieve your effect.

I agree with AJ. There are probably millions of ways to achieve this effect. 3 factors you should keep in mind. Budget, Time, Realistic.
Since by what you are saying is something or someone has already been shot.
if you want a window to look like it's been shot - there are these colorform looking things that have Bullet Hole. though very cheesy in real life these can actually look good on film (just don't have your actors touching it).
Many companies sell Bullet Wounds, so it would depend on how big a hole you would like to make in the object or person. If the object is brick or metal - you could use a hammer and nail to actually dent or even poke a hole through the object, taking white ash from a fire place - or even white cake make-up dab around the hole. then blow on it to remove any excess. then useing black ash, black or grey cake make, just touch the exact center - use both of these sparingly.
As for a person I would just recomend buying a bullet wound prosthedic.

i found this on a website... i don't know if it works
you are going to need a helium tank,1 peice of flexable clear plastick tubing 1/4 inch or 1/2 which ever it should be 10-15 long, fake blood, water balloons, duct tape, and an insecticide sprayer
2.fill the insecticide sparyer with blood
3.take the tube ,fold it in half and fill it with blood
4.take a baloon and slide it on to one end of the tube, make sure its all the way on or your victem is going to get a tit right in the middle of filming, duct tape it on very tightly all the way onto the tube.
5.tape the fixture to your victem were you please and score the clothes a bit if not just cut a little innoticable hole
6.now for the fun, take the other end of the tube and stick it on the nozzle to the helium tank, open the helium valve, use your hand as an air tight seal with you hand around the tubes end and the nozzle push down and pop sombody just got shot

the only problem with using a helium tank is that it's big and bulky and you have to keep it on a hand cart. This limits your camera man. Though the effect probably would be interesting. You wouldn't want the helium to continuously blow air out. if you are looking for a blow out you could achieve this with a balloon or even a condom filled with air or air plus the blood mix and attach the opening to a tube that goes to the blow out.
We have done 7 blow out or explosive body part and though when creating these the director is sure that's what they want. becuase of how grusome this looks, most directors cut these from their films.

Ok now i have no ideal if this will wor, I am going to try it myself in the next couple of days. But my local wal-mart lol sales paint ball guns called talons little pieces of crap. Well i came up with the ideal to just get a piece of toilet paper and dip it in bloody looking water (makes it like bian matter) And stuff it down the berrel then pou in the fake blood. The toilet paper adds a gupy effect and keeps the fake blood from completely messing up the gun( it will cost about 25$ for this about 15 to 20 for the gun then the little co2). Now you put the co2 in adn cualk it then, I am going to bolt or strap a piece of wood with a flap sticking out onto someones back. lol i guess strap. Then strap the gun to it with a srting tied around the trigger then run that through the shirt into the actors hand who then pulls it whack the crap flies and spatters. Now i would assume it would look best agianst a wall. It will be a bit bulky but if shot from front i thank it would look asome please give me insight if anyone thanks this will look good
