Why don't you just use a vacuum and put it in reverce. and add a tube to it with blood or dust (for that saving private ryan effect) Its to bad my vacuum doesn't have a reverce or i would do this.

SQUIBBS I have a plan.

This thread may be dead, but I thought I'd pass on some stuff that I learned.

My first attempt was A rig much like the black cat thing.

Then I went on to using a Battery Remote from an estes rocket set up. With real gun powder. THey both worked to some extent. Both dangerous, and nobody wanted to wear the squibb.

But the the way I've choosen to do it now is very safe, and it looks incredible on camera. You can even do it over and over again exactly the same way.

It's so simple it's almost scary. Number one all the flames that come from my guns are done digitally. THis looks more real than what can be done with a Blank gun anyway.

I've been working on the whole squibb thing for about five years now, and I came across the best way to do it.

Blood MIX
Dark Karo suryp - Red & green food coloring mix to taste - water -chunks for more gore. I use latex bits for the chunks. Anything thats light and will soak the blood will work. Sponge works.

Now to prep the condom.

Buy the non-lubricated ones if possible. If not wash off the lube.

Poke a small hole in the middle of the condom on one side with a needle.

Slide fishing line through the hole - keep on the reel to start with, now tie a medium sized flat two hole if possible, four works just more tieing, BUTTON onto the fishing line so the button will pull through the hole in the condom with the largest suface possible. Push through about two to three inches of extra line inside the condom. Lay the extra line and button at the bottum of the condom. Use a piece of black electrical tape about two inches long to cover up your hole. The fishing line must stick out of the eclectric tap to the reel.

Now fill the condom with your blood slowly. THen tie it off carefully. To much force will cause your pin hole to enlarge. Now press the whole thing down on a 3x3 inch piece of card board. Tape down the edges a decent size section of exposed condom is very necessary. THe tapped up pin hole should be at the top.

Instant safe Squibb.

Score a shirt, so the fabric is real weak, poke a pin hole through the weakened fabric, cut your fishing line long enough to be off camera. Slip it through the hole. Check angle of the camera to make sure the fishing line is not scene. Pull the fishing line Quickly with a large arc of your arm - or use a long pole to get leverage.

A Quick yank is all you need. THe button goes flying out, and so does your blood and bits.

A few practice tries, and this will look awesome.

When i first saw that someone had posted in this topic agin i though "someone is beating the dead horse again" But that actually interesting, informative and so simple that i bet a bunch of us fx guys are slapping our foreheads that we didn't think of it before (i know i am).

Have you tried doing multiple hits with the same method? i would imaging that different lengths of fishing line (each attached to a different blood pack) all tied to a pole of some sort would produce multiple hits in rapid succession.

I would also like to see a video if you have one.

Neither one uses the Karo syrup, but you'll get the idea.

One is water, and food coloring. The other is a very small blood pack.

Yes I have tried this. The best method I've found is a 2x4 with nails about two feet apart. Each line is brought around each nail. The 2x4 has to face away from the puller off camera of course. THen all the line is tide onto a long stick at the tip. THen swung like a baseball bat by the puller. THe fishing line is different distances away so it looks like multiple hits happening a fraction of a second behind each other. THe only problem is getting the right angle so it looks real with out seing the fishing line. With a bunch strings it's not that easy. THe monofillament reflects light.

I came up with this idea by actually needing to do a Head hit. Right in the the forehead.

I did the standard prep. Painted the forehead redish black.

THen covered up a small blood pouch made out of a condom with the bottun under neath. THen Cover the whole mess with liquid latex. With the fishing line sticking out. A word of caution. Make sure you know were the camera will be before you put this on. The fishing line is real hard to hide unless you have the right angle and lighting.

I quick hank - You Have a GORISH bullet smashing into the forhead.

Pull backwards over the head with more latex, and pant the skin under neath like it was brains you have a chunk of skull coming off.

Ok now i have no ideal if this will wor,
I am going to try it myself in the next couple of days.
But my local wal-mart lol sales paint ball guns called talons little pieces of crap. Well i came up with the ideal to just get a piece of toilet paper and dip it in bloody looking water (makes it like bian matter) And stuff it down the berrel then pou in the fake blood. The toilet paper adds a gupy effect and keeps the fake blood from completely messing up the gun( it will cost about 25$ for this about 15 to 20 for the gun then the little co2). Now you put the co2 in adn cualk it then, I am going to bolt or strap a piece of wood with a flap sticking out onto someones back. lol i guess strap. Then strap the gun to it with a srting tied around the trigger then run that through the shirt into the actors hand who then pulls it whack the crap flies and spatters. Now i would assume it would look best agianst a wall. It will be a bit bulky but if shot from front i thank it would look asome please give me insight if anyone thanks this will look good

Great idea dude. they used basically that same effect in the new dawn of the dead. but they had a differernt air compressor set up. but they talked about it on the behind the scenes on the dvd. they just got a plastic tube and put a bunch of ultra slime blood and chunks and more blood in there and attached the tube to an air compressor and then they put the tube on the actors and it shot out all over walls and looked great. so your idea should look basically just as good.

I guess it would depend on exactly how NO budget you were, and where you were filming. In my town, if i want to light a firecracker off on someone ( ), then the fire department isn't going to care. A lot of places you only need a permit for fire if there is a flame and it burns a certain height, or if the firework is of a certain caliber, like as in fourth of july fireworks.
...for someone who is working on a very little or literally ZERO budget, the condom and firecracker will work very well...if done safely! (you can always wear a sweatshirt/something heavy under the squib mark) I have used this idea before, and it can work out will if you just put some thought into it.
as far as fireworks: I would say just check with town ordinances, because not everyone here is going to need permission/permits/insurance just for a couple bullet hits.

i have tested a lot with the firecracker attached to a roof shingle which is then attached to the back of ur head( the shigle conforms to ur head) fill the condom with tons of tissue paper until the condom feels like a big mushy bag of flesh. the tp will stick to the wall or object behind u, and the effects are horrifying. this technique will work anywhere on the body with proper angles and clothing have fun, and be safe
