Hey i'm new here, I'm currently working on a film where the heroen gets slashed across the back with a hatchet, How would i go about doing that, Mabey Stuffing the back of the shirt or what?
PS, My budget is very Low

You could, maybe, not even show the knife cutting him. Get a shot of the killer and the victim from the front at the same time and than show the killer (or whatever) cuting at him/her and than have the actor, getting cut, arch their stomach forward in pain or something. And than show his/her shirt bloody and cut.
Seems simple, but it could work and look very nice.

I have a pretty decent slash effect using a huge syringe (that I made for pennies out of pvc pipe) connected to plastic tubing that has the size slash you want in it.

you could ductape a thick piece of styrofoam on the characters back, under his shirt... i dont know how dangerous that is
