The John Q Director changes with however many posts you make. I hope I never make it to Speilberg *blech*
anyhow, ripping an arm off can be pretty cheap depending what you are looking for. A lot of troma movies just stuff a shirt sleeve, sew the loose ends, apply velcro and stick it together along with a little blood red ultraslime and you get a cool stringy strechy blood effect as well as the velcro rip sound.

you might also want to try stippling layers of latex on a flat surface (5 layers should do it). Then powder it in some areas and don't powder it in others. With your nails, scratch it up until you have something that looks like mangled fishnet. Glue some to the fake arm and some to the "socket" of the arm. When you tear away the arm this stuff will stretch and rip and look like some manner of tendons and what have you.

I find that ultra-cal plaster, molded like bone snaps extremely well - plus a nice sound effect of bone crunch. if you are going for ultra realisting drill a hole down the center and then use sunburn brown or a dark red-yellow color in plaster of paris to go down the center.
the only thing to make sure of is to hit the fake hard very hard in one area first before yanking it off. if the person has a long sleeve shirt on, pre cut it right before the break and then with as few stitches as possible (only the part that can be seen on camera) - otherwise you are just going to yank the entire prosthetics off when the arm is ripped off.
