I'm planning a couple scenes where the bathtub in my apartment is mysteriously filled with blood. What I'm planning on is filling it up and mixing it with generic-brand dark cherry Kool-aid.
Since my tub is somewhere between 20-30 gallons, this is going to be an expensive shot. (at least, by my standards) Has anyone tried anything similar and has some suggestions or warnings?

The cool-aid will most likely stain your bathtub pink. I don't know if that is a big problem or not, but be forewarned. You could try coating it in something, or lining it with saran wrap maybe?
As for the color, since your on a budget, I recomend putting a very dark red or better yet, black lining on the bottom of the tub, perhaps a small peice of tarp or other type of plastic. This way the water will appear a much darker color to begin with, allowing you to use far less cool-aid. Keep me posted on the progress!

I'd have to agree that lining the tub with a dark tarp would make it look better. Cloth would probably work best too, much easier to work with when it's wet. And a trick for getting stains out of your tub if you happen to make a big mess... electric dishwasher soap. I use Cascade, so it might be the only one that works, but it even takes out Rit Dye. (Not recommended for anything organic)

It washes out of walls and floors much easier that way, but be ultra careful not to mix it up with the regular blood...That was a bad day.
