Hi, I am trying to figure out any way I could make my own props. Like what kind of stuff to make paster and/or get plaster, and prostheics, what types and which is the best way to use them etc. Any help would be good. Thanks! Milltown

You can make prosthtics out of Latex, cheesecloth and toilet paper. If you want to scult your own, do it in clay and paint latex over it until it's thick enough. You can make simple wounds and torn skin ect. by painting latex over cheesecloth to give some shape, then coat toilet paper in latex and build up the piece.

Now what if I wanted to make a copy of a real weapon? Say for example a mallet. Now how would I go about doing that? Should I put it in plaster to make a mold of it and then from there add latex or something? Or is copying a real weapon not going to work? Should I use something besides latex? I'm new at this and want to try things out haha. Again thanks for the info.

I have never cast a weapon before, but from what I understand, you need to paint a thin layer of vasoline over it so it doesn't stick to the mold. I don't believe regular latex would work though, you would most likely need foam latex. This site has a good life casting and foam latex prosthtic tutorial, and I believe you could adapt the steps to casting a weapon. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. www.costumesandprops.com/foam_latex_prosthetic_appliance_how_to.htm
