For example, I want a character to take an invisible arrow in the back.
How do I fake the impact of this? In one shot, I would like the POV of the invisible arrow flying toward the character's back, Sam Raimi-style, and the clothing to tear, revealing a wound.
Impossible to do without a real budget?
I'm also thinkig about another character miming pulling "the arrow" from the character's back, releasing a spurt of blood -- but I suppose I can just look at the blood effects topics for that . . .

two things...
1. you need good actors dont have friends they'll ham it up and make it look sh*tty!
2. you have to choriograph the hell out of stunts like this or bigger in pre-production, dont leave a single stone unturned.

Okay, here's what you need to do:
Make a fake wound on the actor in the desired area. You can do this with toilet paper, latex and halloween make-up. Hide some blood tubing attatched to a large syringe or garden sprayer, under the actor's clothing. Have the end of the tube come through the fake wound. Cover the area back up with the actors clothing and then with an exacto-knife or similiar cutting tool, CAREFULLY cut the fabric in the in shape you want the hole to look like. Attatch some thin fishing line to the edges of the fabric on either side with some scotch tape. Close the fabric back up and use a small bit of tape to hold the hole closed. On action, have someone off camera pull the fishing line to open the hole i the shirt and have someone else pump blood through the tubing. The shirt wil open, the blood will spray and with proper sound effects, it will apear as though your actor got hit with a ninvisible arrow.
As for removing the invisible arrow:
Set up the same way you did for the arrow hit, but don't tape the hole closed. Attatch some fishing line to the edges of the wound (have the actor who will be pulling the invisble arrow out hide the fishing line up his sleeve) On action, have the actor mime pullling the arrow out, which will tug the fishing line making the wound react to the invisible arrow, and then pump blood as beofre. Again, proper sound effects are essential for this to work!
Hope that helps! Keep us posted as to your progress!
