how do you achieve a ball point pen either jammed in the eye-socket or in the throat, i'm looking for both GORY and 'G RATED'... well never mind G rated is GORY. Any one who has done this sort of thing or knows how let me know.
In my short film i have a kid in high school jam a pen in another kids eye because guns arent allowed in school so why not put pens on the weapons list?!?!
I need some advice and feedback to do this effect.

Do you need to show the pen hit his eyeball? Will the pen be sticking out of the eye for the rest of the scene? I did a similiar effect for a 4th of july card: www.reelsplatter.com/Feilmeier.htmlIs that the type of effect your going for?

originally the kid gets gutted with the pen, but i'd figure i'd up the antie. No i'm not going to show the pen being jammed in the socket, and yes the actor will have the pen in his eye for the remainder of the scene which is like a minute or two, but that last minute the poor bastard will be a background. And yes thats exactlly what i'm looking for.

Okay, here's how to do it:
To establish that the pen is going into his eye, shoot a scene where the actor has the pen as close to his eyeball as possible, on action have the actor who is stabbing him pull the oen away from his eye as fast as possible. Reverse the footage and it will look like the pen is hurtling towards his eye. Cut to the agressor getting a spurt of bloody pus in his face.
For the effect:
Cut a circle of cheesecloth (it's a mesh used for crafts and can be purchased for under $2 at any craft store or Wal-Mart) make the circle roughly the size you want the wound to be. Paint a thin layer of liquid latex over it and press a circle of toilet paper or paper towel onto it. Hold it together until it dries. Take the pen that will be jammed into his eye and remove the ink. Cut it in half (or as far in as you want the pen to be sticking from his eye) and super glue tit to the center of the cheesecloth and toliet paper circle. Make sure it is dry, and then re-enforce the bond with more super glue. When it's dry, paint some liquid latex over the surrounding area and add shreds of toilet paper. Coat them in latex and shape them into jagged shreds as they dry. Continue doing this until you have the wound shape you desire. Be sure to make the area around the pen have a "lip" of gore, as it needs to have the illusion of depth. When the wound is all sculpted, use make-up to color the peice, and then apply one final coat of latex, to seal it all in. When you apply the peice to the actor, make sure you coat his eyebrow in vasoline, or else the latex will stick their and hurt alot whe nhe tries to remove it! Using a small amount of latex, paint it along the edge of the peice and attatch it to the actors eye area. Be careful not to stick it to his eyelid, as that can be painful as well. If nessicary, glue another layer of cheesecloth to the bottom of the make-up peice and use the edges of the new cheesecloth to attatch the peice to the area. Belend te edges with more latex and toliet paper if needed, and add blood! I find that dabbing the entire wound in a more gle like blood gives it a slick and inflammed look that looks pretty grisly. Add some blood dripping down from the eye, and your done. If you wan to go all out, hide some blood tubing in the acotr hair, or up his sleeve and have him hold his hand over his broken eye while blood pumps through his fingers. Or hide the blood tubing in the pen itself, and have it spurt out the top while the acotr screams.
Post some pics of the final product, I'd like to see what it turns out like! Good luck!

mike what if i want the eye to be open before and while the eye ball gets the pen in the eye? That would look great having the effect look like the the eye is open and have the bastard scream bloody murder! would it be the same or slightly different?

It would be the same basic process, but you would have to make a fake eyeball. You may be able to make one out of some plastic. Your best bet, other than scuplting one out of clay and making it in latex, would be to buy a fake eye from your local halloween store and cut the part you need off. You would then attatch it to the appliance and make a hole in it, so the pen would fit in.
