I need help with a short film idea I had sorta like a more modern day Carrie(u know, kid gets teased and BOOM, everyones dead:)) Anyhow, I was wondering igf anyone had ideas of how I could do some sort of levitation or telekinesis effect where I have on camera , in full view, the object(s) floating, and maybe scenes where the dude has, like, a cyclone of flying objects zooming either around him, near him, or something of the sort. The cyclone, orbiting objects thing would be cool to do, and the effect would need to be able to be done at high speeds. The effect needs to be EXTREMELY low budget as I am only thirteen and have only $100 or so until my $100 a month job starts in Dec. please help, thnx!!

Well, this sounds extremely ambitious. Unfortunatley the only idea I have is the old fashioned method...Fishing line. It looks cheesy, but if you take each frame and photoshop out the string, it will look good. It's tedious as hell, I know, but it's cheaper than dirt and it works. You could try green screen for the floating objects if your the places your shooting in won't allow you to hang objects off screen with string. As for the whirlwind of objects, I can't realy think of anything but having several things on strings at once and speeding up the footage in editing. As much as Ihate it, CG is the best way to do it, and I doubt you have access to such effects, hell I don't either! Sorry Icouldn't be of more help, if I come across anything more I'll be morethan happy to post it! Good luck!

I was thinking of this idea I had after I first posted, and I was thinking, if you had the objects on wooden dowels, and the dowels in turn connected to some small(cheap) wooden frame with a stick long enough to reach off screen, and the whole thing was painted green or blue(I do, actually have adobe premiere) and just chroma key it out. I think that might work, but not so much just for floating objects, but if sharp things, like pens (or whatever is in a school) were to fly towards the antagonist and go through his chest, that could work righjt? I'd put the objects(on the wooden frame) as close to the guys chest as possible, and then pull them back really fast, and reverse it. If that would work, any ideas for how to make it look like the pens and whatever are going through the guy's chest? thnx for the help by the way:) fishing line would work well for parts of the scene

That would work fine. I wasn't sure if you had green screen capabilities or not. It sure as hell makes things alot easier! Just make sure you light everything very well or it will be hell trying to chroma key.
For the chest thing, do it in reverse, it will work fine. As for them stabbing him, you make it appear as though he has them sticking out of his chest very easily! be sure to shoot a scene of his face in pain as blood sprays onto it to bridge the gap between the reversed footage and the stabbed effect!
Get a few sturdy sqaures of cardboard. Remove the ink from the pens (or whatever object your using, though it probably wouldn't have ink in that case) and cut them in half. Super glue the pen half to the cardboard and duct tape it to the actor under his shirt. Have him wear an undershirt so he can keep the hair on his chest when you try to remove the tape! Take the shirt he will be wearing and make pen sized holes in it. Have him put the shirt on and fit the holes over the pens and add blood! You can rig some aquarium tubing to a garden sprayer or large syringe and feed it up his shirt to the pens and squirt blood from the holes if you want a nastier effect.
Good luck and keep me posted!
