I'm Making this short about 2 teens that find a book of witchcraft and begin dabbling in occult forces. In the scene where they find the book a girl reads an incantation and she is then thrown backwards off her chair and onto the floor by mystical forces. I'm not sure how to do it though.

I would say you could go one of two routes with it. One way would be to use a program like ParticleIllusion to give you a CGI mystical blast and put it into post. Or you could go with the notion that some things are scarier that are left unseen. The shots could go from her being thrown back, to hitting the wall instead of the floor, to being lifted up off the floor and sliding up on the wall, to being suspended on the wall, held against her will by forces unknown. All depends with what you're trying to get across in the scene and what means you have at your disposal.

You could do the Pulp Fiction light bulb in a suitcase thing for the force coming out of the book. Have the book on a table with a hole in the book and a hole in the table. Place some type of light under the table, the stronger the better. Maybe use some colored mylar over the light. You could have a fan blowing her hair back and get more intense as she reads. With the right camera angle you could have two guys grab the chair below her and flip it backwards with her landing on a cushion.

I really like the idea with the cushions, and the idea with her being thrown and suspended against the wall just convinced me to change the script a bit for when a demon or unseen creature from hell could be accidently summoned and attack her. Thnx...Where can i find a cheap but good special effects program?

As far as I know FXHome's EffectsLab Lite goes for $109, and ParticleIllusion SE goes for $99. To get just the right effect I've wanted on a video project before I once used a titling program, BluffTitler, as it had the ability to utilize 3D models made from Lightwave, etc, that were saved in the .X file format. That software goes for about $50 but to be honest I don't think it will do the kind of mystical blast effect you're looking for.

That would be a really cool scene, and I like the idea that she's held in suspension against the wall. In any case, this sounds like it's going to be a pretty cool movie. Darksorcorer, you will have to post some scenes from this when you get it filmed!
