Does anyone know if you can get decent sound quality if you record a keyboard directly into the sound card via 1/8 inch plug adapter? What kind of software would be good to use to record with this method?

The quality will be less if you use a 1/8" mono jack. But before you had said you were using MIDI that is really the best thing to do scoring in. As far as recording software I wouldn't really worry so much about getting a high quality program because your not going to be recording a high quality audio track. What type of keyboard is it I can look it up and see what your working with?

I have a Yamaha PSR-295. It has a USB jack, and it says it works with MIDI. I called Yamaha America and they said that it cannot input music w/ the USB port, but it can download songs and effects thought the USB port. I can also record my music on the provided program, but Yamaha says that the program will not make the recording into a file. I have Sony Acid pro 4, but this is useless if I cannot make it into a file. If I can use a 1/8 inch adapter, I can record through my sound card. I just need a decent program to capture the recordings. My keyboard can record 5 different songs on it via it's memory and record up to 6 tracks at a time Per song. If you could give me any advise, I would really appreciate it. I am making a movie and want to do the score for it, but I have to put it onto my video editing program.

This may sound off topic but what kind of camera are you recording your video on? The reason I ask is that if you have a mic input on the camera you can arrange you tracks on the keyboard and the press record on the camera and play on the keyboard and then just capture the audio onto you video editing software. Let me know what camera model and video software you're using.

hi...your psr will transmit midi files through the usb but you need a sequencer to do it...on the cheap check out this site www.computermusic.co.uk/main.asplook into computer muzys sequencer....the magazine itself costs like 13.00 and usually is at barnes and noble....it comes jam packed with programs...spending money buy cubase se.....vst (virtual instrument motherload) and video/film sync so you can see what your underscoring and sync it to video...$99.00...in all honesty once you hook up your psr to one of these sequencers and use it as your controller your never going to want to use the psr sounds again ..trust me
