Yeah, well, you can tell where the reviewer's sympathies lie: In the second paragraph he praises "House of 1000 Corpses" as having "captured the essence of the 70's," to which I would agree - the BAD essence of the 70's. The time where anyone in a bad Halloween mask ($3 plastic) and a "satanic" robe thought they could scare gullible audiences.
I haven't even seen this movie yet, and I already don't want to, judging by this review. The author, Ryan Rotten, calls our token young heroes "smart," and then tells us that our first victim is killed while "taking a [pee]." Yeah, smart move, Einstein. At least Rotten admits that, "if character is your real concern, then you have no business seeing Wrong Turn." That must be why he disliked "Jeepers Creepers." The kids actually seemed like...y'know...REAL kids.
However, at the end of the review is where Mr. Rotten really pulls out all the stops. After no mention of the fact that the demise of the drive-in theatre led to the hole in the B-movie market, he complains about the lack of venues showing modern horror by saying, "We’re living in a completely different time where over-sensitivity is at an all time high so it’s really no wonder why a film like ‘House of 1000 Corpses’ has trouble getting wide release." Yeah, it really is NO WONDER. But it has nothing to do with sensitivity. (Go see IRREVERSIBLE if you wanna talk about sensitivity.) It has everything to do with M-O-N-E-Y. "Corpses" was LIMP (see previous posting), and competition (even in April) is too stiff for many theatres to waste space on a "runt."
At least the reviewer admits that his review is only based on the script for this movie. We can only hope that the final product is not simply an "homage" (I'm really beginning to HATE this word) to "Chainsaw" and "Deliverance" as this review would lead us to believe.

Well! Someone certanly didn't like the review. I have yet to see "House of 1000 Corpses",but like you said the review is based on the script not the movie. The movie is being released on May 30th. I guess we will all just have to wait and see if the movie is good or another hopless teen (trying to be halfway good) movie.
