Vampires: The Turning
2005
Directed by Marty Weiss
Starring Patrick Bauchau, Nophand Boonyai, Stephanie Chao, Colin Egglesfield, Meredith Monroe, Don Tai, Roger Yuan
Connor is an American Muay Thai fighter living in Thailand with his girlfriend; he becomes a hero of circumstance when she is kidnapped and he must come to her rescue. Her abductors, however, are a formidable foe, for they are the vampires who have been hiding out in the far East for centuries. In order to combat the undead, Connor joins forces with benevolent vampires who turn him into one of them. Meanwhile, a beautiful Asian vampire begins to fancy our hero, challenging his resolve and introducing a dramatic love triangle into the mix. Incorporating standard vampire tropes into Eastern mythology, this unexpectedly well-made low-budget film boasts a beautiful exotic location and a good balance between drama and action executed by a talented cast of unknowns.
This was an above average direct to video vampire/martial arts movie that compares well to a movie like Blade. The movie was filled with action and even had a decent story abeit a bit simple.
The main character look like a mild mannered Clark Kent until he turned and became this superhuman incredible hulk type vampire. The acting for the most part was very good with pretty much unknown actors except for the girl from Dawson Creek.
The main negatives i had with the film was most of the film was shot at night and some scenes were too dark to fully enjoy especially the fight scenes. Also the group of Vampires Hunters completely through me off and frankly didnt serve a solid purpose for the movie.
Vampires: Turning was action packed and very well done for a low budget flick with high production value. If you enjoyed Blade this is definately a film worth checking out.
