The opening scene of Camp Daze starts out with a group of teens around a fire singing the camp song when two of the young campers go into woods for a little alone time. Just as the they get into it the guy gets up to take a piss and then of course the guy get killed off. When the girl goes looking for him. All we see is a poll with a hook on it and girl screams obviously knowing what happens next.
Start opening credits.
We see a group of teens driving in a SUV on a remote road. There is a Maine sign next to the road. And the girl in the passenger seat mentions that they already pass this sign. The guy of course says that there tons of signs like that and drives on. There car starts to break down and it all of sudden become night time. As there broke down in the car. There here someone hitting car but unsure was exactly it is. Then the black girl says "Please tell me its not Friday the 13th" one of the many reference she makes. Then they wake up to see some campers outside there SUV. Get up and wake up to find themselves at Camp Hiawatha. They have some reservations about the camp but still take a look around. Where are we? We learned that Camp Hiawatha is no ordinally camp but set in 1981 when a massacre accured of all the campers. But it doesnt end there the campers have to experience the day over and over again in sometype of timewarp. Now the teens of 2005 whos hummer broke down must figure out how to get out of 1981.
The director definately put together a solid effort that takes homage to the past 80's horror classics. And puts a new spin on the concept. He also put in time to get the look and feel of the 80's down perfert from the wardrobe, hairstyles, and even the footage of the film look like it was made at that time period. Another observation i made was the way the kids from 80s acted compared to the present day MTV generation.
There were only a few instances where i thought could be approved. The first half of the movie seem a bit long with too much talk not enough action. The nudity meter was nonexistent and the sex appeal was coming almost entirely from the male characters.
With that being said i thought Camp Daze is very much a worthwhile slasher flick that should be enjoyed by all.
I give Camp Daze a 3 out of 5.
