At a time when movies are redundant with sequels, prequels, and unoriginal material Zombie Honeymoon stands out from being different from the rest. A zombie movie that doesn’t focus on the gore(While there is some) but on the characters and a heartfelt story that stays with you long after the film has ended.
Danny(Graham Sibley) and Denise(Tracy Coogan) is a young newlywed couple who just got married. They drive off to a house where they will spend their honeymoon. After getting settled in they hit the beach to relax out in the sun when all of sudden a man comes out of the water and attacks Danny. Taken to the hospital he is pronounce dead but seconds later he wakes up. A miracle? Probably not. Not until Denise finds Danny in the bathroom eating some guy does she realize the truth. That Danny has become a zombie that needs to feed on the living. Denise tries her darndest to make this marriage work but when your husband is amongst the living dead it’s kind of hard to have a normal relationship. And when everyone around her ends up dead she must decide whether to stand by her man?
As much as I am a horror fan sometimes it can become repetitive until a film comes along that breathes new air into a tired genre. Zombie Honeymoon is that film. A film that proves that great actors can come out of genre that is very much underrated in terms of awards of excellence. Writer/Director David Gebroe took a script loosely based on a true story that Hollywood should take notice. And actors that can actually act. Graham Sibley and Tracy Coogan play the part of the picture perfect newlywed couple. And you can definitely see a true chemistry amongst the two that can only be describe as genuine and to hear that there are actually a real life couple after the film proves just how good fit they are together.
Contrary to the title of the movie Zombie Honeymoon is not a cheesy low budget horror film but a well rounded romantic horror comedy that pulls you into the story from the start and keeps you there to the very end. Director Dave Gebroe put his heart and soul into this film and it shows in the final product. An instant classic that is one of most entertaining films ive seen in a long time.
