Much as I'd love to buy Adobe, it's a bit out of my range at the moment. Is there anything worht using on the lower end? Like Pinnacle. For my short I don't need anything fancy, just straight cuts, fades and the like. Also, a couple of tracks to do sound on. I have an entirely different sound editing software, that's not an issue. I can just import into the DV software later.

How much do you plan on spending? We can better pick out the right stuff with this knowledge. Off hand...I'd say Vegas video. Go to www.dvdirect.comthey've got great deals on this package right now that nobody seems to wanna match. And they are reputable.

Avid Free DV just came out. It's limited in what it can do, but hey's for free whadyawant?
For the under $100 editor, I'd go for Screenblast's Movie Factory. It's actually a scaled down, but very workable version of Vegas Video which was bought by Sony. Cool little editor.

I've been looking at adobe recently and I have a question. Is it worth it to get a version that's a bit more dated? No way can I shell out the cash for 7.0, but 5.1, and even 6.0 is getting down to where I won't have to give away an arm for it.

kstshadow,
If you're going for Premiere, go for 6.0. It's light years past 5.1.
