Hello strange type people of the low budget gore.
I was just wandering if I could ask your advice on VHS & S-VHS camcorders. I know, I can hear you crying mini DV ;D from hear but I have a starting budget of 50p(ish) so I'm keeping an eye out for uk based sellers of second hand retro stylee S/VHS cameras (or eBay), preferabley models that handle both tape formats - can anyone suggest any make/brands to keep an eye out for.
Also the editing facilities I have acess to consist of a PC, Adobe Premier and a JVC Mini DV and VHS editing Vcr - they're quite old models of this brand but Im not sure wich model exactly, Does anyone know if these older models also handle S-VHS cassets? Also - on the off chance i cant get hold of a full size S/VHS camera - if they will work on cVHS in an adaptor? Im trying to avoid Compacts becase of the tape lenght but if I can still edit these with this setup I might be swayed.

Personally, I'd only go with S-VHS as a last resort. If you must get an S-VHS camera, go for something like a JVC KY17 like this cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3810521650&category=3319Sturdy camera, excellent lens, and rock solid construction. But... and it's a fairly big but, you will need a PAG battery belt (or similar) and a very sturdy tripod to mount one of these cameras, also they are not cheap. You might be better off considering a MiniDV or Digital 8mm camera, a low-end one will cost you a lot less than a decent S-VHS camera. Try www.ajelectronics.co.uk/ for some pretty good deals on digital equipment. Analogue recording is not going to do you any favours, you are losing quality straight from the master, and with vhs (or even S-Vhs) the image is really nowhere near as good as digital. Incidentally, all S-Vhs cameras will record ordinary vhs as well. Just my $0.02

I use S-VHS. The quality is great. I have a panasonic. I am not sure the model. I also edit on S-VHS. If you can find S-VHS gear cheaper than digital then go for it. the quality is just fine. You wont be able to sell your product warner brothers or anything, but who the hell cares about that?
