I'm looking to invest in a decent prosumer low-end camera...in the Canon Xl1 area, but what other cameras do you think are better, for either a better price or for better quality and options? Also, I'm trying to pull a no-budget film...so if anyone has used an even lower-end camera and had good results please let me know.

I've seen people get decent results with the Panasonic DVC 10 and Canon GL1's and 2's. The DVC 15 has XLR inputs for better sound. The Canon XL1 has the lens ability, but for films, I think the best bet in that price range is the DVX 100 or 100A (100's may be available cheaper now that the "A" is out). The 24p really does have a not so video look and if you have enough light it looks great. Of course, if you can wait, there is a rumor that Canon is releasing a 24fps camera of their own with the interchangeable lense system. I do know that adapter lenses for the DVX 100 are very expensive, so we sometimes use lower end cameras for specialty shots with wide angle adapters. If you check www.crazedfanboy.com and look at Jason's Jungle, that is shot with a combination of the Panasonic DVC10 and a little Sony Digital 8 TRV 350 (or 351, I can't remember). You need a high speed connection to get decent picture quality, but I can tell you it is pretty good.
