Hi everyone,
We are going to start producing some no-budget shorts and a feature shortly after. We have scripts, and computer editing software, however what we don't have is equipment (camera's, mics, mixers, lights, etc)
My main question is about the camera. We have some money to buy a decent camera ($2000-$3000 range..and we don't want the added cost of film, so I guess we want digital or something like that-again I'm a complete novice here about cameras) what would you suggest? also we may want to purchase a second cheaper camera. We want a high quality picture, and high quality sound.. What suggestions do you have about the sound? We have means for rental of good sound equipment, but we don't want to do an overkill on anything as we don't have the money to burn. Basically, if you had around $4500-$5500 to spend on equipment (and you don't have any but the computer and editing software) what would you purchase?
Any help would be appreciated!

Pick up a Panasonic DVX100A. A decent tripod, like a Bogen 501 head. No cheap Walmart tripods. Get a decent shotgun mic, either Azden, Audio Techniques or the kind Sennheiser. And don't for get a light kit. Costs: DVX100A $3200 add spare battery $50 Case $100 Pelican 1600 www.casesforless.comTripod - Bogen $600 Shotgun Mic $250-600 Lowel Light kit $800 (or a new up and comer Britek light kits for $400-ish) Scott
