It looks like a pretty average machine. The main problems will be with focus and exposure. Ideally, you need a camcorder that can be manually focussed and offers a good range of manual exposure settings. This particular model has a reputation as giving a generally poor image quality, especially in low light conditions, and it also seems to have poor manual control. I'd say avoid this camera. You would really be best with something like the VX2000 or similar, you can probably pick up a used one for around $1500 these days? Failing that, just try to get a camera which has good focus options and good exposure controls. You might try one of the following: Canon Optura 30 Mini DV JVC GR-DX307 They seem pretty decent, low-budget models, with manual options. For more info I'd recommend www.camcorderinfo.com/ as a site with some really in-depth reviews.

My advice is get a camera that you can afford. The Samsung is a low end camera, but if that's all you can afford then that's all you can afford. Understand it's limitations, like poor low light capabilities and lack of come manual features.
The Panasonic 953 is a good little camera and if you can afford it, then I say go for it. Just remember you need to get a tripod, a case, a decent external mic and maybe some lights.
If getting a better camera means a few month of waiting, do it. If it means over a year, I'd rather see you making movies and building your skills.
