i use an apple power book with Mac OS X 10.4.8- iMovie-witch comes standard. I used it to import/edit all the footage for this Deftones Fan Video-mini horror flick to Knife party. Check it out. I know its not the best but it only took a few hours and ALL the lighting,hues,exposure,effects,contrast,subtitles,chapters,audio/video effects and i meanEVERYTHING was done with this one program. Raw footage+ Apple computer= www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJYRvcGd7x4seriously...i only used this ONE program AND the film was shot with an 8 yrs old camcorder. no pro equipment.

i'm currently running a macbook pro w/ fcp hd 5.1
i wouldn't recommend getting a laptop. I haven't had any major problems with the macbookpro, but i found that editing on an imac or the towers was faster & if you're not looking for the portabilty i recommend them.
