So... I'm watching Demons and Demons 2 this weekend. Anything I should know before I dive in? I've watched many films by both of these "masters of European horror," and I can't say that I was all that impressed. However, I'm always willing to give a guy another chance (my friend has the DVDs).

Dario Argento is one of those 'stylists' that became too repetative after awhile, but horror/gialli filmmakers would be amiss not to study his films. Here are a few ones that I particularly liked and thought were pretty good...
Trauma (giallo) The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (giallo) Phenomena (horror--this one was released in America as Creepers, but there was a lot of cutting) The Hatchet Murders (giallo) The Church (Horror--this one is like demon, but I think it's better)

Personally, I've been a big fan of both Mario Bava and Dario Argento.
My favorite Dario Argento films are: 1) Suspiria*, 2) Phenomena, 3) Inferno*, 4) The Stendhal Syndrome. *Part of the uncompleted "Three Mothers" Trilogy.
My favorite Mario Bava films are: 1) Black Sunday, 2) Bay of Blood (aka Twitch of the Dead Nerve).

I love both of them, Argento is my favorite director ever and my biggest influence, and Mario Bava is right up there in my top 10.
Favorite from Argento: Opera, Suspiria, Profondo Rosso
Favorite from Bava: Black Sunday, Blood and Black Lace, Lisa and the Devil
