Hi y'all, I start filming a vampire flick early next month and i need advice on filming children! Our actor is 4 years old, has a fair bit of dialog, & has to be a victum towards the end.... I'm wondering what would be the best way to direct him where he wont be freaked out? His parents are acting as well. Thanks!

With children, especially very young children, have lots of patients and make sure the child knows it's all make believe and there is nothing to be afraid of. Make it a sort of game, but one that's serious and has very clear cut rules, and did I say be patient. This I've learned from years as an elementary school music teacher. Explain everything you want the kid to do very well and in simple terms. Remember they are 4 and have neither the developmental level or experience of even a teenager much less an adult. If you are patient and explain and demonstrate what you want you will be surprised how much a 4 year old can do.
