Maybe I should have paid more attention but: A SO-N-SO Production of a Red Bacon Film.
What roll do SO-N-SO and Red Bacon play in the making of the movie? Both production companies?

Generally, it's a STUDIO production (SO-N-SO) of a PRODUCTION COMPANY film (Red Bacon). However, it could be two separate production companies, or even a distributor and a production company, or a production company and a director .... etc. In an effort to protect themselves legally, the producers of a particular film may create a separate production company only for that film. (After the film is completed, the company is "disbanded" so to speak). However, the film is made under the supervision of the larger production company or a studio. This basically means that, while the larger company supplied funds or assistance, they did not actually make the movie. Therefore, they cannot be sued for damages of any kind.
Several years ago I worked on a film titled, Tuskegee Airmen. It was made for HBO. The production company for the film was called Red Tails Productions. This was a production company created specifically for the movie. (Red Tails, get it?) So, the credits read HBO Films presents a Red Tails Production ... A similar case is the MTV film titled, Better Luck Tomorrow.
Usually, if the movie credit reads exactly like your statement, it's a large production company/studio production of a DIRECTOR's film. This is used when a director has clout. (Or a good agent.) Hope this helps!
