First horror movie you saw in a theater?

The first horror movie I saw in a theater was "The Exorcist." This was back in the 1970s, and it was a packed house -- I can still remember waiting in a long line with my mom and younger brother to get into the theater.

I also remember it being so scary that I had to look away from the screen a few times and stare at the seat in front of me. And the audience was really subdued the entire time. Actually, my brother and I were at the age when a Disney movie would have been more appropriate, but my mom finally caved in to our demands to go see it with her. We had no idea what we were in for that day!

I was born in 88' and didnt have the money to see movies at theaters for a while but the first horror movie i remember seeing is at a theater is Wes Cravens new nightmare, but the first ever horror movie I saw was HELLRAISER I in 1992!

i was born in 99 and really didnt get into horror untill like 2 to 3 years and my first one was dawn of the dead new one

I am a child of the 70s and frankly I always watched horror on cable or later through vhs rentals. hmmm ... the first movie I remember seeing at a theater that can even be called horror was 'Jaws 2'! lol. I was a little nervous about seeing carnage on the big screen too, but that was before the movie began.

Yeah, the "Jaws phenomenon" was really something. We saw it the first time at a theater and another time at the drive-in. I also remember my Jaws t-shirt -- haven't worn any movie-related stuff since.

The first one I remember seeing at the Drive In was Phantasm a double feature with The Manitou (about 1978). It scared the hell out of me, but not as bad as catching Night of the Living Dead on TV did later that same year.

I just recently bought Night of the Living Dead on a three disc set with 8 other zombie flicks!
