Im not too familiar with editing programs but have you check out www.dvdrhelp.com The people at the forum are pretty knowledgeable about editing and converting video.

Ulead Video Studio or Media Studio Pro is very user friendly and is pretty powerful if used right.

I use the Pinnacle Software DV500 capture card for all my home editing. It come with Adobe Premier as standard. It's a pretty good card, plug-n-play, easy to use and pretty cheap (around £500). Search on the internet under DV500 and you should find a few sites with info. www.videoguys.com/dv500.html

Are you staying in DV or getting a cut list for film matchback? Avid Xpress Pro and Final Cut Pro have film Matchback otherwise Premiere Pro is easier for system compatability.

For price vs. features, Pinnacle Studio is great. Easy to use and lots of advanced features.
